Collectively they have been responsible for some of the world's biggest club tracks over the last few years and now rank among the most respected trance producers globally, with a number of successful projects including 'Oceanlab', 'Freestate', 'Tranquility Base', 'Pos', 'Mitromethane' and 'Dirt Devils'. Above and Beyond's major breakthrough came when their spec mix of Madonna's single 'What it feels like for a girl' was accepted mainstream. As DJ’s Above and Beyond are beginning to carve quite a name for themselves following high profile sets at the likes of 'Passion', 'Ministry of Sound' and 'Room at the top', the boys have also found time to establish and run two successful record labels, with Anjunabeats and Hard On Recordings both enjoying a solid following from the world’s most influential DJs. They hold the number four position of best DJ's in the world monitored by DJ Mag's top 100 poll. Originally from Germany, Markus Schultz has built himself a stellar reputation as one of the global leaders in production as well as a world renowned DJ. His own label, Coldharbour Recordings, has delivered over 60 A-list releases within 3 years. His commitment to his own work as well as his peers has seen numerous solo, collaborative and remix projects that have enabled him to boast an unrivalled discography, largely inspired by his travels and the people he has met. With his heart at the soul of every project, Markus consistently delivers hit after hit, most notably with 'Without You Near', 'Daydream', 'Perfect', and 'The New World'. This dedication has since seen him storm up the charts to take his current place at number 8 in the prestigious DJ Mag Top 100 DJ poll. Markus also dominates the airwaves with his weekly radio show, Global DJ Broadcast and can be heard in over 30 stations worldwide. He sits comfortably at number ten in the worlds renowned DJ Mag Top 100 and although he may not be as mature as his predecessors Sander van Doorn has certainly made an impact in his comparatively short career. Since his start Sander (and his alter egos; Sam Sharp, Purple Haze, Filterfunk & Sandler) has produced a variety of sounds, combining elements of trance, electro, techno and house. His debut artist album ‘Supernaturalistic’ (2008) received rave reviews and has won the award ‘Best Breakthrough Artist’ at WMC’s IDMA, including a nomination for ‘Best Underground Track’ with ‘Riff’. It was Sander’s DJ'ing experiences around the world that prompted him to start up ‘Dusk Till Doorn’, taking clubbing to the next level. Besides turning tracks he is also responsible for many collaborations with artists including Marco V on the monster tracks ‘Organic’ and ‘What Say’, and ‘Close My Eyes’ with Robbie Williams. Every year Sander plays to over one million clubbers, headlining huge events such as Sensation, Mystery Land, Trance Energy and Global Gathering. Based in Manchester (UK) Gareth Emery is a producer and DJ of trance music. Emery has a distinctive and unique production style that can perhaps best be described as a fusion of trance and progressive, with psy, tribal and techno flavours. His productions have been described as intelligent, driving, melodic and progressive. His dub mixes are often done in his signature "stuttering vocal" style, which he pioneered on his early hit 'Bouncebackability' (co-produced with John O'Bir). He is well known for playing a diverse showcase of music both in his DJ sets and his podcast, and has often dismissed his categorization as a 'trance' DJ simply stating that he plays good records regardless of genre. Emery has his own label, which is also involved as a club night in Manchester featuring extended sets from Gareth and guests such as Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond and Sander Van Doorn. Gareth Emery As a DJ, producer and remixer Simon Patterson is one of the hottest properties in dance music right now. With a style described as cutting edge, dark, driving, pulsating, Simon’s technical ability is a finely tuned art that fuses trance with elements of techno and electronica. Signed exclusively to the hugely respected Spinnin’ Records, Simon’s music has earned him massive support from industry leaders such as Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Armin van Burren, Ferry Corsten, Judge Jules and Above & Beyond. With tracks such as F:16, Panic Attack / Strip Search, Bulldozer / We’ll See. Behind the CDJ’s Simon has graced the world stage at many prolific festivals such as Dance Valley, Sunrise and Gatecrasher Summer Sound System all the while delivering his sound to new audiences with frequent appearances throughout Asia, Australasia, Europe, North and South America. Regarded by M8 Magazine as ‘one of the highlights of 2007’, there is no doubt that Simon Patterson has ‘big hitter’ in his blood. Sean Tyas, a New York native now residing in Switzerland, brings to the dancefloor a mix of melodic harmony and driving groove that is sure to be just as effective on the legs as it is on the heart. Moving to Europe proved to be a great move for Sean, doing all productions for DJ Beam in Germany and building his experience as a studio producer. Eventually Sean decided to step away, concentrated much more on his own productions and remixes. "Mirella" was the product of this exodus, as it was promptly signed to Afterglow Recordings, seeing John Askew and Dave Joy remixes. This led to a follow-up remix of Duderstadt - Muhanjala, which has seen almost every playlist of any trance DJ this year, including Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk. On the DJ side of things, Sean has hit the ground at a running pace, and by now in 2009 he has already played in over 30 countries spread across 5 continents. As 2010 comes around, Sean will now be getting back to the studio to focus on his original productions, and develop more as a production artist. Initially known as the pioneer of trance music, BT has proved to be one of the most cutting edge artist and producers for a multitude of musical styles. Whether he is crafting perfect pop hooks with past boyband *NSYNC, composing intricate scores with eighty-piece orchestras for films like The Fast and the Furious, collaborating with Sting on a track from his forthcoming album, remixes for Tomi Amos, Madonna or Seal, BT consistently balances creative and memorable songwriting, sonic innovation and the latest technology for a cutting-edge sound. BT's mix of epic and classically inspired journeys and beats quickly took on the name of trance, and became one of the most popular and dominant electronic music genres played in clubs from London to Tokyo and New York. BT's talent and persistence had paid off and he later released his epic albums 'IMA', 'ESCM' and the wildly diverse 'Moment In Still Life', featuring the hit single 'Never Gonna Come Back Down'. Nic Chagall – the mastermind behind the high-flying DJ team Cosmic Gate, a highly prolific producer with hundreds quality tracks to his name. Currently not only touring around the globe, but out there established as one of the most creative and eclectic producers in the edm scene. In 2006 Nic Chagall aka Claus Terhoeven returned to his roots as a solo producer. His debut single "Monday Bar" delivered him his major international breakthrough Nic’s trademark, an instant classic, blending popular anthemic mixes, progressive trance with prominent rock elements. As a remixer he’s added his unique touch to tracks by Armin Van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Marcel Woods, Filo & Peri and Wippenberg. Impressed by his work, Above & Beyond voted Nic Chagall their producer of the year 2007. Creating and displaying a unique style is more important to him than fitting into a pigeonhole. One thing is sure: you won’t have wait long, until the next Nic Chagall smasher is going to hit the floor! |
